This R1 is Amazing. I have the R4 and it is Amazing as well. The R4 is SERIOUS heat; it’s simply amazing and cannot be beat. And for my wife and I sitting around it, or in our RTT annex with vents cracked, we can only run it on a low heat- it is SO Hot! It is large in size and heavy - and so worth it for what it is. It shines when snow wheelin / camping, breaks at the snowboard resort, all standing / sitting around under an awning, full cranking. Just like a big log fire.

This is one of those rare products designed by enthusiast and not engineers with a build to cost directive. I suspect it will outlast me and my children will eventually be enjoying it. Yes it is expensive, but it is built like a tank by hand in the US, and it puts out a significant amount of heat. I have only tested it on the patio, but we will soon be testing it on the trail and I can’t wait.

I’ve got about 30 mins of use in the back yard. Flames came up about hip-high (sorry ladies, I’m only 5’11”) and it was really warm. If I’d been sitting in my camp chairs, it would have been at chest-level, and maybe even eye-level. The compact size is outstanding and won’t take up too much room and my wife even exclaimed “it’s so cute”. Super solidly built and feels like it will last forever.

I really like my new Howl R1. The flame gets huge if you want it to, I can sit a little bit away and still feel some heat. Its well made and sturdy. Some things that would be nice, some detents so the legs remain fully extended in place when needed, a handle on both sides, a carry case or lid that covers the ash/soot side. I like the orange on the R4, maybe color on the side.

The flame is beautiful but the B flame and the tubes when they are glowing radiate a tremendous amount of heat! Sitting here on a spring morning at a campground in the Smokies and the B flame turned fairly low, my legs and body are nice and warm!
