Portable Propane Fire Pit | Howl Campfires ReviewsSee store reviews

Delayed our camping vacation a few days while we waited on the Howl heater to arrive in -4 degrees Cincinnati weather. We made it to Saint Augustine for the first leg of the trip and the unseasonably cold weather has followed us! Got to use the heater during the night for the first few days before torrential rain whacked us, locking us inside our camper. The heater works well! During the next phases of our adventure it will get to test its spirit in full. Heading to Gulf Shores Alabama next, th...

Living in the mountains of the southwest United States, I've experienced an increasing number of yearly fire restrictions and burn bans in my lifetime. This gets frustrating for us responsible, well-mannered campers that would like to enjoy conversation and drinks around a campfire when out camping with friends. So when I first heard of the Howl campfire project a couple years ago via an Outside article, I subscribed to Howl's mail list and began following their progress on Instagram. I was impr...

Absolutely enjoyed the first use - my only concern was that it used a lot of propane relatively quickly (1 hour ) - and as the tank got lower the Barcoal burner stopped getting full heat - when I turned down the A frame , the barcoal got hotter, but never full heat again even though the BC valve was on HIGH How long should a full standard bbq propane tank last with both valves on high ? We live in Telluride - attitude 8750 ish Very excited and happy the howl minus the above listed co...

Considering that the only bias you can bring to your first encounter with a Howl is based on a Firecan or bigbox propane pit it really is an incomparable experience. The TLDR for me is that it’s actually warm. Broiling even. I didn’t time it, but I’m pretty dang sure futzing with the a flame level got me much better than 6.5 hours on my first tank. My very minor complaints since the praise is already pretty thick. It’s heavy, it gets hot so could limit your ability to bail quickly, and full on...

Living in Colorado there’s almost always a fire restriction 3/4 of the year. As an avid overlander, I was over not having a fire at the end of day. Decided it was time to invest in a propane fire pit/box. After taking the time to do some research the Howl seemed way ahead of the competitors in quality and craftsmanship. And it’s made right here in Arvada, CO. So I made the purchase and was instantly surprised at the craftsmanship. Amaziny well built. I would even say it’s a BIFL fire box. I put ...

I’ve wanted to enjoy a fire in the backyard that I could easily take car camping but my wife hates that everything always smells like smoke. The howl campfire is amazing, spent the night hanging out with friends and looking at the stars. And the barcoal heat is amazing I’m never buying a propane fire that looks nice but has no really thermal capability. This is changes everything for my family and enjoying the outdoors. I’m would say I’m a gear guy and this is definitely one of my three all time...

After 15 years, we finally upgraded our Camp Chef fire pit and went with the mighty R4 and this thing did NOT disappoint! This thing is built like a tank and puts out an incredible amount of heat. Living in Northern Idaho, we’ve been searching for a campfire that can actually keep us warm when the temperatures drop, and we finally found it! Plus, it’s perfect for making s’mores with the family. We absolutely love this fire pit and only wish we had bought it sooner! If you love camping in col...

Our R3 was delivered to Charleston, SC last week in preparation for cool weather/winter camping. I wanted to make sure we received it before our first trip north in a couple of weeks. I don’t usually review products so soon into ownership, but one week in, we’ve been blessed with two nights cool enough to fire this rig up in the back yard. Without being dramatic, it’s everything Howl claims it to be. Watch the videos. As a lifelong backpacker, but now mostly RV camper, who has schlepped/scaveng...

I live in Northern California and have experienced numerous fire bans at campsites over the last few years. Having grown up camping all my life and loving the end of a day around a campfire, fire bans have been rough. I was determined to find a solution. Howl was it!! I randomly saw a IG post of it in the snow and read a review. Then deep dived into the story, R & D, the company and product. Amazing. I just got back from my first trip with it. It kicks ass!! As good as a campfire and ma...

I love it! My family loves it too! No more searching for a place that sells firewood and hauling the wood around making a mess in my vehicles. No more trying to start a wood fire in a slight breeze. Living in California, with all the wildfires, we love that this unit will not send embers off in the wind to start fires. No more worring to put a wood fire out before leaving a site. Next trip to SoCal its coming with us to the beach! Great product and proud that it's made right here on U....

Ordered the R3 on launch day. After it arrived, had second thoughts about whether the R4 would be a better fit. Howl said do a test burn at home to see how it works. But analysis paralysis set it so went to Basil’s Garage where they let me compare them side by side. We were deciding between the adjustability of the R4 and potential for more scenarios of colder, warmer, stargazing, morning, nighttime, etc. while being able to save some fuel in many of those. But, the reality is it is a good bit m...

From the moment you open the box, you can tell that this product is a different level of quality of most others. The fit and finish are amazing and it looks like a work of art. The heat that comes from this unit is ridiculously hot which helps with propane management. My old fire box had to be in high the whole time for it to get enough heat to those around it, but even then, it wasn’t enough. This product is expensive, but you get what you pay for. I truly feel like this is the last propane fi...
