I can’t recommend the Howl campfire more! This little R1 packs a punch and always keeps us warm no matter what adventure we’re on and means we get to spend more quality time around the campfire making memories. Overall review: 4.5/5 Build qualify feels solid, it’s definitely got some heft. I like the design and the way it stands upright in use and how it can be attached to a propane tank for stable transport. In terms of the heat, it definitely produces. But don't expect to sit back and get toasty warm, you’re gonna have to be close and leaning over the howl to get the warmth you want. I’ve been wanting a R4 for some time now but couldn’t really justify the price tag. I was stoked to see the R1 launch and ordered within the first 10 min it was released. ZERO regrets. Considering that the only bias you can bring to your first encounter with a Howl is based on a Firecan or bigbox propane pit it really is an incomparable experience. The TLDR for me is that it’s actually warm. Broiling even. I didn’t time it, but I’m pretty dang sure futzing with the a flame level got me much better than 6.5 hours on my first tank. So far I've unboxed the R1 and had a chance to do a test run in a 15+mph wind. Everything worked perfectly. I think this new R1 will be perfect for those time when a wood campfire is prohibited. I love the fact that it's small enough to pack with everything else in the truck camper and especially like the fact that unlike other portable propane campfires, the R1 doesn't have the lava rock rolling around when stored. Being a Colorado native and loving the outdoors I really enjoy having a fire. But the burn restrictions and wildfires have limited that pleasure over the last couple years so we were looking for a legal acceptable solution that provided that campfire experience. Took it out on its first trip this weekend and I am in love with the thing!
