Finally got to try it out on driveway before a trip. It’s well built and does what’s it’s advertised to do and expect to get many years of use. Why it’s only three stars is due to three flaws 1) see manual section 3, having to undo six screws to do a leak test before every use is a pita. Allen wrench not provided at $1200 or use of wing nuts would help. 2) the quick connect under unit gets hot and the simple rubber hose attached to hot brass is a failure point of extreme danger - should be a hea...

The Haul Bag is well build and does a good job of protecting and transporting/storing my Howl R1. My only issue is that the hose and it’s big regulator don’t fit too well in the lid pocket that then folds on top of the campfire itself.

Well made. Makes a big flame, but not much heat radiation. Dont love the dual controls. One on the unit and a 5PSI pressure regulator dial on the tank regulator. Creates a dangerous set up where it can burst' with lighting because you cant tell. The metal ploate in the middle heats up and distorts significantly.
Overall not bad for the money, but would like more heat and less metal distortion.

Need for you to get an accessory ready to cook on and protect from marshmallows that might drip, and greasy brats. This would complete your unit. Also, would a lava rock rail help hold more heat?

Four stars only for the stiff hose. I would love to see a hose that is a little bit more compliant and lays on the ground with acting like a snake with Rigamortus. I will be shopping more for a most flexible hose to retrofit, but I really do like the fireplace.

Is it built well? you bet! Does it seem like it was worth he cost? for sure! What about communication and responsiveness of the company? 5 Stars, Stellar! Like many, I succumbed to buying a propane firepit due to the all too common fire bans that seem be happening sooner in the season. After hours of research, I decided on the Howl R1 mainly due to portability. The issue I have with most of these firepits is that there is at least one compromise across 1) ease of use (portability fits here) 2) ambiance and heat 3) ability to cook. No propane firepit serves all 3 (yet). R1: 4 stars. If Howl can solve all 3 requirements, I will happily upgrade...

much better than a reg. lp fire. be nice if it had better 360 deg heating capability, found little to no heat transfers to people sitting behind the on/off valve area so it is really is good for group of 4 or less. So far I like it. I've already had people ask about it. Works great. We had 80 mph winds the day i received it, and thought what a better way to test it, and it still worked like expected. It shipped extremely fast. The only thing I wasn't really pleased about was the price tag. So I hope for the price it holds up.

I love the flame and how it's adjust the flame. I was disappointed that the Skid plate strap locks hit the floor before the rubber feet. I was glad I did not set it down on my floor before finding this out. The gouge would have been a major bummer. When transporting it I will have to figure out a different way of stowing it..

Seems really well built but somewhat disappointed with the amount of heat it gives off. Would have gone with the R4 to get more heat if it wasn't so expensive. the R1 though seems like it will last a really long time though and is nice and light.
