The blade is definitely thick enough and can hold an edge. I have no doubt it can and will prove to be a worthy blade for packing into the wilderness and using as bugout weapon in my self defense collection. My only disappointment was the plastic handle, but it is easily replaced with with a hardwood version that will the ability to hold onto it when the handle is wet, and reduce the vibration caused by striking solid objects. Overall, in terms of design its nice - the double knives fit well together and it is nice, tight and compact; the handles are plastic which is a bit disappointing as I was expecting wood; in terms of sharpness it is average maybe even a bit less compared to a normal pairing knife, in addition the grip makes it feel less comfortable when cutting fruits and vegetables.
